Our friends Jeff and Anna Berry are into week two in Nashville. It's been so fun hanging with them. Tonight was our monthly "Celebration" service. Jeff came and led worship with piano and Sheryl and Brian Randolph sang with him. It was a great night! I love being led in worship by Jeff. We had a good crowd and I know people left feeling encouraged.

During rehearsal I lost Sam for a moment and then spotted him hiding on stage under one of the praise team chairs. He had found the praise team communion trays from this morning and was hiding under the chair drinking juice--one cup at a time. I had to capture it with my phone camera...

Ella (we sometimes call her "the regulator") came to inform me that Sam drank all the "wine" and had eaten all the "peace". Our kids have always called the bread "peace". It's a combo of taking a "piece" and the actual word "peace". Early on they got it confused, but it made more sense to me than anything I'd ever heard. So now they call communion bread "peace". I like that. Apparently, Sam was communing...and enjoying every minute!

To me it sounds more like "show business."

scaredy cat scaredy cat.

If you've got something to say, bring it on face to face, brother/sister.

Brandon can handle it.

i recently enabled all comments--even anonymous so that some who don't have blogs can comment. The reason I had disabled anonymous comments in the first place was because of shadow lurkers who prefer to cast stones and run back and hide under their rock. Let's all play nice...or, even like Jesus. Novel concept.

Sorry. I'm so tacky!

Alice..if you're tacky then we are ALL in a heep of trouble. I am pretty sure you don't have a tacky bone in your entire body. Unlike Anonymous up there. Love you, friend! :)

Is there a difference in singing vs. "singing backup" like you had the first time?

Forget all that cowardly nonsense. Let's focus on SAM... That picture is stinking HILARIOUS! I think we should all be grateful that the OC is a grape juice church...

Love you! Shmee

When I have visited other churches that serve communion individually at the front, the server has said, "The peace of Christ" as he/she handed me the bread. Maybe Sam is Episcopalian?

Yes, it was "show business". During the whole inspiring service, we were showing God that we meant business in this amorphous thing we call worship. We didn't drag through 3 verses of a four verse hymn; we didn't have a hymnbook stuck on the tip of our noses; we didn't watch to see if Jeff were beating 3/4 time; we didn't snore through the bible readings; we didn't sit on our hands or our emotions. The experience was inspirational (note Spirit at work), mentally arousing, and faith-building. Thanks Brandon and Jeff for the time spent on a lovely summer evening.

Being one of the worshippers at the "show business" I want Anonymous to know it was wonderful!! I do not need piano or music every time I worship, but I do enjoy it every now and again. Jeff Berry has such a talent of moving you into worship. I have two small children and after a crazy afternoon I was as far from being in the mind to worship BUT WAS in the mind before the end of the night. Last evening was spirit led and anything BUT show business.

I hate that some people feel that way--who knows I may even know you and if that's the case I really am sorry that you felt like leaving such a comment but did not feel you could sign your name to it.

Love you Brandon:)

there's no difference in reality...just terminology. Some people have trouble with terminology--like "back-up". I didn't want to cause people to miss the point of the whole thing over some dumb details. ie: not seeing the forest for the trees.

PS: too bad we don't use real wine for communion...then we'd have had a completely different blog

You are a hoot....and by the looks of little Sam he is following in your footsteps! Love the "communion" picture. I just had to comment again, since I forgot to mention the Sam pic above. Blessings, Linda

I too got all caught up and forgot to mention how cute Sam and Ella looked!! I love that they call it 'peace' b/c that is exactly how I want to feel when taking it--at peace.

Great pic of the kids. Feasting on the forbidden communion under the chairs is a rite of passage for us C of C folks, isn't it? I remember my first time. Makes me wonder why we don't open up the whole thing and welcome kids, strangers and whoever to enjoy Jesus' meal together. That seemed to be his approach.

Thanks for the referral to the Jeff Berry Band. Always looking for new expressions of worship. Peace.

I love the picture-that is just great!! I also love that they call it peace-so fitting!! We can learn so much from kids-no wonder Jesus invited the little children to come to Him and told us to have faith like a child...

Love that SAM!
When we went to church with my grandparents I liked to go to the restroom during the church and "partake" in the treys left in the back...and I would have gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for those big purple stains down the front of my whie Easter dress!
There's no buisness like .... well you have me humming now!

Brandon, I would have given anything to be at OC's "Celebration" worship. My sister Lauren has just moved to Nashville after living in Dallas for 35 years. She will be the new elementary principal at N'ville Christian & she is REALLY good at what she does. She & her Chattanooga son came to OC this past Sunday & thought the worship time was so meaningful----and she was sorry to miss Tim preaching. Thought the singing was wonderful. I'm so sorry that some people are so narrow & rigid that they've become the Pharisees of our time. I'm SO thankful for the fresh winds blowing that I believe fully that Our Father is bringing to HIS church.

THANKS for all you do to make worship excellent. Andee from Little Rock

You would have been written up in every c of c publication in existance if

1. We had wine for communion

and

2. You son got obliterated after drinking it all.
